Aria of Destruction

So I’ve had this Aria for a couple of days. It’s pretty awesome. You can do all sorts of interesting things with it. I’m pretty pleased. Of course, I absolutely despise AT&T, because their plans are expensive. On the other hand I get a discount, but it only barely makes it competitive. I’m not a fan. Obviously, this is the Aria part.

The cycle of ass kicking at the job continues. There is no reason for someone to have 15 tickets. Seriously. At one point some of us (and there are only three) have upwards of 20 tickets. It’s been like this for quite some time and it’s getting old. We can’t effectively function being buried under so many tickets. Granted, some of those tickets are actually alerts (which have to be treated like a ticket – meaning we have to investigate and ensure that nothing is in fact wrong), but it’s really overwhelming. Other shifts have at least 5 people, and that increases their ability to handle increased load, but our shift (despite having greater numbers of foreign customers awake and submitting tickets) has 3 and that’s apparently all we need. This is not true. We need more people (at least one more).

I started this post many hours ago, but apparently it was too busy for me to get it done, even though it’s retarded short. So, I’ve gone ahead and finished it up now that I’m off shift finally. Only 45 minutes late getting off this time. Awesome! I’ll update this with a pic in a bit. I need to go home. I’m tired.

Upgrades and the Weekend

I upgraded Reality Out of Sync today, and it was smooth as glass (the expensive kind). I’ve been mucking around with themes as well, and apologize if you loaded the page and were like “What the hell just happened here?” every other page load. Whoops? I’m kind of particular about my themes though, I’m sure it wasn’t that much of a hindrance.

This is my Friday, I am so freakin’ happy. The week was going well. Then one of my co-workers came back from vacation, and suddenly the night (last night) goes all to hell. It’s like he has a curse or something. We got our asses kicked the entire night. It was horrible. This has got to stop, we need at least one more person on our shift. That’s pretty much the only way to fix this. I’m not going to get any faster. I’m not that fast of an engineer, and I’m not a rock star like some of the shift leads. That’s not to say that any of my co-workers are bad people, they aren’t.

I’ve been boning up on the postfix mail stack to assist my shift lead in transitioning us away from qmail. I fucking hate qmail. I would like it if we never ever use that piece of software again. I don’t understand it, I don’t have time to learn it while on shift when problems creep up with it, and the logging….seriously? Yah, that software irks me to no end. Why can’t we just use the tools that are already in the distro? That seems like the wiser thing to do, let custom garbage to be done and less floundering when weird problems creep up. Everyone should know postfix and its associated tools. Dovcot is not brain surgery. Why are we using qmail again? Fail. That’s why.

Did I mention I can’t wait for the weekend? Yah. That.

Good thinking on bringing the ladder - Could you take that first rung please?

Long Time No Type

Well, this is unfortunate. I had an entire post lined up and ready to go, but needed to reload my browser to troubleshoot something at work. WordPress is supposed to take snapshots as you are creating your blog posts so that you don’t lose your stuff from a browser freeze or other unfortunate incidents. Guess how well that works out for me. Exactly.

Today I had breakfast with the company president and some of my night shift. It was pretty good food, I’d eat there again on my own. The conversation was also pretty good. Listened to a lot of information about the direction (some small things and some bigger things as well) the company is going to go in. It was very informal and relaxed. Better than any meeting I ever had at my previous job.

I’ve been playing a PS3 (as if I own any other console right?) game by the name of Demon’s Souls. It’s a difficult game by default, but it feels pretty rewarding when you manage to conquer something without failing miserably. The punishment is stiff for failure, so it helps to move extremely cautiously and turn in your souls often to upgrade so you don’t get killed on accident.

My life, and by life I mean my rotation of waking up going to work and being a zombie for hours before going to sleep and waking up just to repeat it all again, is returning to normal; however, normal just means I’m sleeping less and working more. ^_^

I had an interesting and rather enlightening conversation yesterday (err really it’s kind of more like super early this morning, third shifter and all), and I’m hoping these conversations continue with some frequency and regularity. Anyhow, I’m tired and I need to go to sleep before I’m zombified all the way out. Oh, got my flippin’ postfix install to relay mail properly again. I mucked up the order of my head checks and relaying suddenly broke all to hell. That only took like 3 hours to figure you. =-/

Behind or beneath? Behind or beneath? So difficult to decide!

Funerals and Jobs

I’ll start with the job and go backward. There is a rumor that they are going to  move one of my shift’s crew members away from our team. This sucks pretty hard, because our team is really solid. We get along well and we cover each other really well. We have rapport and have a lot of fun on our shifts. Not a happy fun time at all. I’m pretty annoyed at that change.

Then the real happy fun time. My younger brother was killed in a car accident a few days ago. His funeral is coming up on this coming Tuesda. I have to attend that and the wake, which is on Monday. That’s pretty awesome. I really am not looking forward to sitting in a funeral home all day, nor the whole graveyard shift that’s going to take place (literally, not figuratively). That’s my updates on my life this week/month. Yay.

Oh, as a side note. I’ve added translation tools for those of you that read this (I know there are a few) that do not speak English natively. I’m pretty confident that whatever language you speak, we’ve got it covered. Enjoy! No bunny this time. I am not up for the search today.

What I Thought Was

What I thought was, I’d have a new and interesting person to talk to by the name of Jin. Had an interesting conversation with this person the other day. I’d like to continue that. Might be building a wordpress site for this person. I might even host it if they ask nicely.

It’s my Friday, and I’m really excited about that. Not that I’m going to do anything, because I don’t get paid until Monday and I’m broke. Yay me. I have to stop by someone’s house and install Adobe for them because I took away their administrative capabilities because I hate having to go back and forth to their house to repair stupid things like, “Oops, I got another virus for the 5,000th time and I can’t figure out why. Fix it right now!”

I started playing Final Fantasy XIII yesterday, absolutely fantastic; although linear at this point in the game. I hear it expands outward later. I hope so, because I’m kind of bored with the way it’s going at this point. I’ve only been playing for about 6 total hours though. So I can’t really get down on the game yet.

I also have Star Ocean to finish up, but I just haven’t been on top of it due to fatigue from the job (they are mentally killing me there) and the fact that I have been super focused on Heavy Rain. I swear that game is just out of this world awesome. I downloaded the soundtrack too, because even that is awesome.

I just woke up like 45 minutes ago after sleepin’ part of the day. I guess today was my catch up day because I haven’t slept worth a damn for the longest. As a side note, yes, I know you can’t really “catch up” as it were on sleep.
