My Apologies

EveryDNS apparently is shutting down their service. What does this mean? It means while trying to access kuei-jin.org, there have been multiple failures because they didn’t notify me of the switch over. I’ve moved DNS, and gotten kuei-jin.org back up on the Net. It would have happened sooner, but I don’t control DNS refresh times over at DynDNS, sorry.

I’m traveling to Kansas City tomorrow morning, and will be participating in some festivities/introductions before heading back Saturday night as I have to work Sunday night. Good times.

I’ve taken some time off from work (and blogging, and everything else really) because I’ve been pretty unhappy with the way things have been transpiring. As a result, I’m a happier, kinder, gentler, prata; however, I believe I’ll be moving to Germany for a while (if there are any jobs for me there). It won’t be long, possibly a year or so, because I do not foresee my current place of employment providing me with more paycheck, and I think I deserve more paycheck than I’m getting currently. I’ll have an update on that in the coming weeks. Go Team Venture!

Migrations of the WordPress Sort

I’ve had a very (in my opinion) series of tickets come my way. Tickets in terms of work within the context of my job, not tickets as in speeding, parking violations, etc. I’ve been pretty well behaved in that regard this year. I’ve had maybe seven wordpress tickets come my way in the last couple of weeks. I don’t mind them, wordpress is pretty easy to deal with as long as you don’t destroy the database on accident. I got a project to migrate from google apps, Sabina England’s blog. After some playing around and massaging of wordpress, and yes doing a few things I wasn’t proud of later, I managed to get Sabina’s site migrated into wordpress. Exciting times. I’ve almost got her squared away, but I highly suggest you check it out. I’m working on an image gallery that doesn’t suck. So we’ll see how that turns out. Sabina’s Blog

If only we all could be this happy

In a Haze

So, I’ve been productive and shit today. I don’t like it one bit. I’ve been dong some design work, and I _hate_ design work. I did discover that manipulating WordPress is pretty easy. I’m not sure how people make so much money doing design work in the framework. Of course, I am just a n00b and I really do not enjoy making changes to any framework. I’m not artistic.

I’ve deployed wordpress to a staging environment to help my friend Sabina move her current web stuff to a new hosting solution. So far she’s not be terribly demanding, but I disagree with her design philosophy. It’s neither here nor there, it’s her stuff not mine. It’s turning out as one would expect, after hacking the shit out of a theme to get it to display the way I want. Go me?

I’ve got Mass Effect 2 on the brain. I haven’t played in two days because I’ve been too damn tired. I need to buy groceries. I actually don’t have anything to eat int he house. Like seriously, there is zero food. But that requires treading out into society, and I gotta tell you, I don’t actually want to do that. That can’t be healthy.

Most of it is really from my job though. I’m stressed the fuck out, and the changes are slow coming to help ease my stress level. Probably not going to get my base pay increased either, and that sucks, because I think we (all of us really) are being under paid for the technical work that we do on a regular basis.

But, since whining about it isn’t going to help. I resigned myself to this!

I can see why she doesn't actually work in an office. There would be _no_ work done. None.

Here We Go Again

It’s almost like they are trying to actually trying to make my life easier. From my job to my freaking hobbies. Take the job for example, when overwhelmed, I can finally fucking escalate the shit that’s keeping me behind. You might wonder how a Level 3 engineer might have the ability escalate. Aren’t we the last line of defense? Don’t ask, basically we take it up the ass for lack of foresight.

My hobbies on the other hand, Google is going to release the Android App Creator. It looks pretty fantastic. You can quickly deploy a simple app pretty easily. You basically drag along different boxes which appear to represent bits of code to do things. I’m a fan. Things are looking up! I’m discovering much more information about the Android platform, and that’s pretty amazing. You can do some pretty nifty stuff. I’ve also been helping people root their phones, which is definitely an experience. Some people are really impatient. I chalk this up to them not having any real technical background, so they don’t understand the difficulties that are sometimes involved with getting this stuff to work as one would expect. It’s not always easy, and it’s not always point and click.

I really should be sleeping, but I slept up until about 4 o’clock and I just can’t sleep anymore. I know I’m going to be tired at the end of the night, and that’s going to suck it pretty hard. Oh well, hopefully I’ll get out on time. I need to go make a freakin’ phone call. Blech. Later gators.

Yah, I'm good.

Click and it gets bigger! ^_^

Aria of Destruction

So I’ve had this Aria for a couple of days. It’s pretty awesome. You can do all sorts of interesting things with it. I’m pretty pleased. Of course, I absolutely despise AT&T, because their plans are expensive. On the other hand I get a discount, but it only barely makes it competitive. I’m not a fan. Obviously, this is the Aria part.

The cycle of ass kicking at the job continues. There is no reason for someone to have 15 tickets. Seriously. At one point some of us (and there are only three) have upwards of 20 tickets. It’s been like this for quite some time and it’s getting old. We can’t effectively function being buried under so many tickets. Granted, some of those tickets are actually alerts (which have to be treated like a ticket – meaning we have to investigate and ensure that nothing is in fact wrong), but it’s really overwhelming. Other shifts have at least 5 people, and that increases their ability to handle increased load, but our shift (despite having greater numbers of foreign customers awake and submitting tickets) has 3 and that’s apparently all we need. This is not true. We need more people (at least one more).

I started this post many hours ago, but apparently it was too busy for me to get it done, even though it’s retarded short. So, I’ve gone ahead and finished it up now that I’m off shift finally. Only 45 minutes late getting off this time. Awesome! I’ll update this with a pic in a bit. I need to go home. I’m tired.
