For those of you not in the know, Powder is a a Border Collie/Chow mix that is 11 years old. She hates strangers, she hates people outside within view, and she will chase you and bite you if she gets loose and you don’t vacate the premises. She’s a good guard dog, but she’s eleven years old. She’s a good companion, and when she dies, she’s going to be missed. I will probably shed a couple of tears.
Enter Ninja, a German Shepherd puppy, that tests my patience a bit, but is going to be a great dog. He sits at my side and stares at people as they walk by. He doesn’t bark really, but if his father is any sort of dog to judge by, he’s going to be fearsome when he finally does open his mouth. Ninja will make a great companion along with Powder as he gets older.
Interestingly, Powder had some adjusting to do. She doesn’t like to share, and she feels that anything given to Ninja should also be hers. They are slowly getting over that now though. What I find really funny, is that she is much more playful with him than in the beginning, and even has gone so far as to want to go outside and insist that Ninja come along. She wakes him up by licking him and then heads to the door.
It’s both cute and funny I suppose, because she seemed very resistant to participating in any activity with Ninja when he first arrived. Now she offers her shoulder to him when they play so he has something to bite. The chow in her makes her extremely thick-furred, so he can’t actually get to her skin. It’s just all around interesting, and I’m a fan of the entire pack mentality. Hopefully Powder gets some get times out of their interaction together before she’s too old to play around much.
Any how, good times!
And what everyone comes here for:
