So, I’ve not been all that active in posting about Gaza/Palestine and Israel lately. Mainly, because the entire issue is very muddled and people naturally have an affinity to the “plight of the Jew” as it were. I use that phrase not as an insult to the Jewish population (“I have Jewish friends” <– oh how I could just hug people when this phrase gets used hahaha), but as a reference to how I view the very odd sentiment in the US and in other countries that Israel can really do no wrong. I can’t fathom how this is okay, we used a nuclear arsenal on a country and pretty much ended their ability to truly resist armed occupation; however, no one in the world as far as I’m aware would let Japan do what Israel has done and is doing on a regular basis and say, “Oh, but look at what happened to them they are just defending themselves.” Well, maybe that’s not a proper example, but it’s good enough to get my point across – Israel needs to be told “no” once in a while.
When Palestinians don’t immediately put their weapons down, people cry foul and label the entire population sub-human and terrorists. What happens to them doesn’t matter. When Israel continues to violate rules or build settlements on land that doesn’t belong to them, everyone kind of turns a blind eye. No one says anything about that, and I find that abhorrent. I find it a little hypocritical of people. Interesting side note. In Israel, Arab looking people are randomly carded by military personnel. No one finds anything about that disturbing. Jewish looking people were randomly carded on the street as well and then siphoned into ghettos. But it’s okay because the Israelis are doing it to protect themselves, right? Why is it no one finds these sorts of things disturbing and wrong? Why is it that the first word out of anyone’s mouth is that Israel is inherently right because of the situation in which they live.
I recall having two planes slam into large buildings here. Sure, nothing much changed if you were a minority. You still get pulled over for being black on a Saturday night in a white neighborhood, and I know I still got pulled over for just driving a nice car (and I have light skin!) and being relatively young; however, if a large segment of the people in the US suddenly started getting carded regularly because they happened to be passing through an area (meaning white people started getting the shake down regularly just for being white in a white neighborhood) well then there would be an uproar. It’s okay in Israel though (not least of all because there’s not dick any of us can do about it really) because the Jewish population can’t really do any wrong. Yah.
