Weather, Jobs, and Movies

What are, things that rock out?

Things that suck. We were looking for “Things that suck.”

Actually, it’s not all that bad. I had the joy of catching District 9 over the weekend, and man that movie is freakin’ awesome. To me it’s very allegorical to Deep South Slavery and Jim Crow laws, as well as the Israeli-Palestinian segregation not to mention Apartheid. The movie was really well done and the CG was amazing. It was filmed in a documentary form, and some of the things that they showed happening to the poor “prawn” were just brutal. Having to have licenses for children, their children being burned alive if discovered to be created without a license. Disturbing, they weren’t allowed to possess any technology (their own or human) it was really disgusting to me.  The movie is absolutely superb at drawing you in and being believable. I’d see it a second time!

I’m changing jobs! My Director was really (in my personal opinion) kind of a unpleasant about it. He pretty much told me I should go, even though I was undecided. He didn’t counter-offer or even say, “Well, we hate to see you go.” or anything like that. I understand the economy is still limping along and all, and I really didn’t expect him to bring my salary up to what I’m being offered at my new company, but a token offer would have sufficed. Even a simple, “Well, we can’t match an increase in salary, but maybe we can work out some ways to keep you on board.” That didn’t happen. Sucks, but that’s life and the company I’m moving to is more up my alley as far as skill sets go anyhow. I will post more on this event as I exit my current job.

The weather has been kick ass for the past 3 or four days despite the off and on rain (I like rain!). It’s been not cotton field in August hot outside and it’s been breezy. I’m totally a fan of that. The downside, is that it’s creeping back up into muggy kick your ass heat and that is why the weather is going to suck in the next two or so days. =-/

G.I. Joe! I almost forgot. Saw it, wasn’t bad; however, it could have been better I think? I’ll be interested to see if the next installments feature better story and the same level of quality action. Some of it was just for the sake of “look at this cool shit we can do with CG and explosions”, but it is G.I. Joe after all…..right? Oh, you know what would have been cool at the end of it? They should have done those little kids lessons that they used to do at the end of the cartoon. “…and knowing is half the battle.” “Go Joe!” hehe. Yah. No pics this time, but I got some comin’!

One Response to Weather, Jobs, and Movies

  1. I need a new job. I like my work, but the pay stinks and isn’t up to dealing with the burden of medical debt I’ve accrued.

I thought District 9 was great too, although it kind of drew me out of the moment whenever they dropped the documentary format and returned to typical movie style. Plus the upbeat ending seemed tacked-on via Hollywood focus group, the people working to make every movie thoroughly mundane. Those, and the lack of nude Japanese women, are my only complaints.

GI Joe was okay for a dumb, loud, ‘splodey type of film, but it was even more stupid than most. I think even GI Joe fans understand that ice floats, and so detonating the ice above a submerged hidden fortress will not cause it to sink and crush the place. I still think Transformers 2 was better.
